Raymond Stanley  Belnap - January 6, 1926 - September 20, 2016

Raymond Stanley Belnap, 90, passed away at his home in Vale, Oregon on Tuesday, September 20, 2016.

Raymond was born in Bernice, Idaho on January 6, 1926. He was the youngest son of David Evan and Avis Linnie  (Baker) Belnap.

In 1936 his parents moved their family from St. Anthony, Idaho to Vale, Oregon. They homesteaded a place north of Vale, and took the land out of sagebrush using a team of horses. Raymond's job was to bum the piles and windrows of sagebrush. His father cut and hauled logs to Vale where they built a log house.

Raymond played several sports and was an excellent boxer in high school. He graduated from Vale High School in 1943.  After graduation he enlisted in the Army and served in Germany during World War II.

Raymond married Jean Netcher, on December 23, 1947,  at the home of her parents.  They lived in a small trailer for the first few years. They ranched and farmed to support the cattle. As time went on, the farming operation grew in size. He served on the School Board and the Soil and Water Conservation District Board. Raymond was  an active member of the Church  of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a member of the Bishopric  at one time.  He was Scout Master for many, many years. A lot of young men received their Eagle Scout Award under his leadership.

Raymond was preceded in death by Jean, his beloved wife of 66 years, on February 22, 2014; his daughter, JoAnn, Raynell Pauline Hale and Monica Jo Hale; a grandson, Coby Raymond Hale; his mother Avis Belnap; his father David Evan Belnap; a sister Florence Machen and three brothers;  Mac, Duane, and Owen. He is survived by his four sons and their wives Bob and Janice Belnap, Jim and Debi Belnap, Dave and Mary Belnap, and Ron and Debbie Belnap, all of Vale;  twenty-two grandchildren;  fifty-seven great-grandchildren ;  two great great-grandchildren  and numerous nieces and nephews.

A viewing was held on Sunday, September 25, 2016 from 5:00 pm to  7:00 pm at the Haren-Wood  Funeral Chapel in Ontario, Oregon. Funeral services were on Monday, September 26, 2016 at the Church of Jesus-Christ of Latter-day Saints in Vale, Oregon.
