Kay ‘Tater’ Smith

Kay “Tater” Smith, 81, passed away in a Boise hospital April 3, 2018.

Tater was born September 24, 1936, in Bridgeland, Utah, to Ruby Alice Edwards and Jason Lynn Smith. He joined siblings Phyllis, Elaine, Dan, Merin, Loyia, and Tuck.

Tater attended Vale schools and graduated from Vale Union High School in 1956.

He was active in sports, including wrestling, boxing, track, and football.

Tater loved horses and the cowboy lifestyle. He ran in the first Vale Suicide Race and won, and ran many times thereafter.

Tater married Glenda Hoffman February 18, 1972 in Winnemucca, Nevada.

As Tater was employed by Edward Hines Lumber Company in Hines, Oregon, the couple moved to rural Burns.
