Lucille Bales Clark, March 15, 1912-Sept. 5, 2014, of Vale, passed away at home at the age of 102.

Lucille was born March 15, 1912 in Caldwell to William P. and Huldah Seale Bales.

She was raised and educated in Caldwell and graduated from Caldwell High School in 1930 and the College of Idaho in 1934 with a degree in Foreign Language.

Lucille met Hilton M. Clark as freshmen at the C of I; they were married on June 18, 1939, in Caldwell. They soon moved to Vale. When Hilton was drafted into the US Army during WWII, she replaced him as Deputy Malheur County Clerk. They had two children, William in 1944 and Jane in 1948.

Lucille taught grade school at Enrose, Parma, and Vale and retired from Vale High School in 1976.

She was a 73 year member of Vale Chapter K P.E.O., an active member of Vale Methodist Church, Vale Senior Center, and Coast Guard Auxiliary. She volunteered presenting water safety programs for 2nd grade classes around the valley and conducted safety patrols for boats at Lake Owyhee. She also volunteered many weekends at the Orma J. Smith Museum of Natural History at The College of Idaho.

Adventures included a 1928 summer long motor car trip across the country, early Sun Valley skiing, pioneering snowmobile travel, boating (both local and in the San Juan Islands), visiting cabins at Lake Owyhee and Sumpter.

In retirement, she was able to read many books, enjoy BSU football games, and keep track of her three granddaughters.

Lucille was an elegant lady always remembered for her compassion and caring for all.

Her always positive attitude is an example for the world.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Hilton in 2005 and her sister, Louise Johnson in 2000.

Survivors include her son, William H. (Mary) of Boise; daughter Jane Luther (Dale) of Ontario; grandchildren Ellen Clark (Rob Gerber), of Delta Junction, Alaska, Cindy Clark (Casey Garcia) of Seattle, WA, and Karen Clark of Boise; niece Bobbie Lou Johnson and nephew, Gary Johnson of Parma, grandnephews Andy (Audrey) Johnson and sons Henry and William, and Nick Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Vale Community Methodist Church or the Vale Senior Center.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, September 23, 11am, at Vale Community Methodist Church, followed by a lunch at the St. Patrick’s Parish Hall in Vale. A private family gathering will take place at her final resting place, Evergreen Cemetery.
