Ontario — Betty Pauline Dyal Lee died on July 16, 2015 at a local assisted living center.

Betty was born on December 26, 1936, in Odon, Indiana, to Roger and Ruby Ledgerwood Dyal. She grew up in Willowcreek, OR.

Betty graduated from Vale High School in 1955. She attended Oregon State College for one year before returning home to begin working at the Ontario Library.

Betty married Gordon Lee on July 20, 1957, and they made their home in Ontario.  Gordon worked on the family farm and as he grew the farm, they built a home out on highway 20/26 a few years later.  During that time, Betty held every job in the library. Her favorite was working as the children’s librarian. She created fantastic displays to showcase a new theme each month and her weekly story hours were attended by three generations of children.  Betty drove the library bookmobile 270 miles each month throughout Malheur County to make sure children had access to books. She retired in 2001 after working 45 years at the library.

She earned many blue ribbons at the county fair for her floral arrangements and her decorative library booths.Betty enjoyed working in her yard and loved to travel, especially with her niece, Sandra Gallardo.

Betty is preceded in death by both of her parents; brother, Howard Dyal; sister, Doris Jean White; brother-in-law, Charles White; sister-in-law, Dixie Griffin; and her nephew, David White.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Gordon Lee; sister-in-law Linda (Ralph) Ashby of Ogden, UT; brother-in-law Glenn (Mary) Lee of Fruitland; and brother-in-law Ray Griffin of Ontario.

She is the beloved aunt of many nieces and nephews including Allen (Cindy) White, Vale, OR; Sandra (Leslie) Gallardo, of Salem, OR; Kathy (Don) Arnold of Weiser; Debbie Milliron, of Boise; Randy (Carol) Griffin, of Ontario; Rick (Susan) Ashby, of Ogden; Karlyn (Garth) Braithwaite, of Kaysville, UT; Kaylene (Thomas) Checketts, of Layton, UT; Ralyn (David) Van Beekum, of Harrisville, UT; Karleeta (Kirk) Jardine, of Taylor, UT; Daryn (Deborah) Ashby, of West Point, UT; Karla (Mitch) Simpson, of Ogden; Marne (Paul) Marshall; Brian (Abby) Lee; and Trevor (Julie) Lee, all of Fruitland. She is also loved by her many great-nieces and great-nephews.

A celebration of life service was held on July 21, 2015, at the Lienkamper Chapel in Ontario, with interment following at the Evergreen Cemetery in Ontario. Memorials in her honor can be made to the Friends of the Ontario Library, 388 SW 2nd Ave, Ontario, OR 97914.
