William “Bill” Gilley - Class Of 1950

William ‘Bill’ Frank Gilley  Sept. 17, 1933 - Oct. 8, 2015

William “Bill” Frank Gilley, age 82, passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at the Pioneer Nursing Home in Vale, Oregon with his family and friends by his side.

He was born in Ontario, Oregon on September 17, 1933 to the late Kathryn Fields and Frank Gilley.

Bill graduated from Vale High School in 1950. He also graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1975 from the University of Washington and a Master of Business Administration in 1978 from the University of Washington.

After retiring from United Airlines he worked as the City Manager of Vale and Nyssa, Oregon.  Bill had a keen sense of leadership and well-developed business acumen.  He was an entrepreneur who started and ran Vale Tax Service, sharing an office with his oldest daughter Kate Humphrey.

Bill was truly a family man who enjoyed reading, playing cards, and exercising.

He is survived by his daughter, Kate Humphrey (Hugh), of Vale, Oregon; son Dean Gilley (Trudie), of Bellevue, Washington; and grandchildren Farrah Champagne (Maurice), Tim Gilley (Ramie), Shanon Gilley, Diane Gaston, Rebecca Gilley, Jenny Gaston, Grace Shuler, and William Shuler.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife Lucia Ann Gilley of 62 years and daughter Josephine Amelia Templeton.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on October 17, 2015 at Vale Community Methodist Church, 225 Cottage Street South, Vale, Oregon 97918.
